Happy New Year 2016

2016 Is Here!

On New Year's eve, we had a movie night with the younger missionaries in the Harlingen Zone.  We are the only full-time Sr. Missionaries here.  We went to the Stake Center and watched "Polar Express" and had treats.  The missionaries had to be home early so we started at 5:30pm and ended at 8pm.

Our Mission President asked us to visit all 11 units in our Stake (Harlingen Stake, TX).  There are six buildings within the stake where 1-3 wards/branches meet each Sunday.  There are 3 buildings in Harlingen and 3 in Brownsville.  Of the 11 units, 7 are Spanish.  We are being immersed in Espanol.

We are visiting one building each Sunday and the wards/branches in them so the members can get to know us.  (Now we know what High Councilmen must feel like.  There to speak and gone the next week) - lol.

The stake is comprised of mostly two cities, Harlingen and Brownsville which are approximately 45-minutes apart.  There are several smaller towns in between.  We have Employment rooms (about the size of a closet) in both cities at ward buildings.  Following is the office and building we attended today in Brownsville.

Today we went to Church in Brownsville.  The theme of the testimony meetings seemed to be Home Teaching, Visiting Teaching, and New Year resolutions.

An MTC experience came to mind.  We did a role play activity one afternoon with a missionary couple from Pocatello, ID.  The man was playing a less-active member.  He worked 6 days a week and loved to go fishing on Sunday.  Nothing we could think of persuaded him to go to Church on Sunday.  We were stumped.  Afterward, he told us he was really playing himself in his younger years.  He was a Sr. Missionary now, so we asked him what changed his mind.  He said good Home-Teachers.  Wow!  He and his wife are now on a mission.

We took pictures of our apartment today.
